Basically, this is still Control with large empty corridors with the same enemies, and only a few moments/situations associated with the AW theme. However, I still liked it very much. The DLC gives a whole separate floor-location, a couple of new resources and one new weapon, and each skirmish with darkness is interesting for its game-play(since Jesse does not have skills against darkness, you need to interact with the environment in different ways to go through each such skirmish). I cannot give a high rating, as I expected more, but not just small pieces associated with "Alan's Darkness", but I will not give a low rating either, since it was done with high quality and interesting.

Despite some flaws, AWE is a very good expansion that brings Alan Wake into Remedy's shared universe and teases exciting things for the future.

The large gaps between the launchers days does not give the whole picture. Hopefully, the studio does a better this job next time.

AWE has problems to separate itself from the main game in almost every aspect. The connections to Alan Wake are interesting, but rather an appetizer. ‘The Foundation’ is the better expansion.

Alan Wake makes his official debut in Control in full force, delivering a very large helping of lore and storytelling that goes down great with the overall game experience. If only he had a brought a small side of new gameplay mechanics as well, because the formula remains pretty much the same.
