Having completed it as Mordecai I plan to revisit the game and try some of the other playable characters, but I will probably move onto Borderlands 2 first.The game runs smooth with a unique cell-shaded look. The Switch's motion controls lend themselves well here and for the most part the game feels responsive. The available weapons and RPG-style levelling make for great gameplay. Sound design was flawless. The various enemies the game throws at the player made my flesh crawl, and so blowing their heads off was incredibly satisfying. The game felt challenging, but not impossible, throughout. And while the story was minimal it still drew me in.I highly recommend this and will definitely be playing the various sequels.

I loved the game so much I have purchased Borderlands 2, I just haven't found the time to play it yet. I would recommend this game to everyone, young and old alike, and definitely play the DLC if you can, it really expands on the original game and adds great diversity and extra chances to level up quickly. I have only played as Mordecai the Hunter as I love using the sniper rifles, and his pistol play is really fun too. And Mordecai's pet Bloodwing is a real killer when you upgrade. I like the way you can play-through twice, and after maxing out your experience and levelling up it can be fun just treasure hunting for the best gear. TOP GAME, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

There may not be a more apt way to describe it - the game is an astonishingly fun romp through a semi-open world that combines Mad Max aesthetics and bright, vivid colours on the visual front, while meshing elements of Fallout 3 and Diablo - the result is a feast for the senses.Having played the original upon its release, my return to the game came after about a decade of not having been able to play the original (which I spent hours and hours of time on) - somehow, the game has withstood the test of time remarkably well, and seems to hold up better than its sequel in the gameplay department (though the latter's story and characters are undeniably even more enthralling). Borderlands is consistently fun - the combination of growing more powerful via both levelling and the acquisition of better guns and gear (of which there are a massive variety of) allow you to have a palpable sense of progression. Furthermore, the game allows the incredibly fast-paced fun of shooting up enemy bandits, critters and soldiers to not be marred by death - you die, you lose some money, and are booted to a nearby respawn point. This makes the enjoyment remarkable consistent, and the consequences of death minimally punishing. The game clearly wants you to have a blast, and that is what I was having for most of the time.While the main story doesn't feel like anything to write home about, Borderlands' characters are a puerile riot - the unique charm of bumpkins and enemies alike such as Scooter, Nine Toes and Marcus add incredible life and personality to this game. While CL4P-TP (Claptrap)'s constant reminders of available missions and bounties are utterly infuriating, laughter inevitably ensues when players are exposed to the hilariously depraved and socially inept antics of Patricia Tannis. Though seemingly sparse, what is on offer here in terms of characters is mostly fantastic, though certain characters (such as Commandant Steele, for example) fail to leave a lasting impression.While the characters and overall personality of this game possess immense charisma, not all of this game is charming, especially in 2021 - while potentially endearing and appealing once upon a time, Borderlands' visuals are now an utter eyesore. Enemies are hard to spot amidst the muddy backgrounds they blend into, and I had suffered serious eye strain trying to fill my enemies with bullets. Furthermore, combat balancing feels a little too dependent on the level of your character - having great gear and some skill can help, but ultimately, it felt as though this game has some minor balancing issues when it comes to combat. Having said that, the game never felt like it wasn't still fun - these difficulties were easy to cope with when everything that this game does right was executed so perfectly.All in all, Borderlands is an utterly phenomenal game that was ahead of its time. I have found it to have immense replay value, and the numerous sequels it has spawned speak to the precedent this game set. Though its visuals haven't really held up, and despite some minor balancing issues, this game remains an absolutely fantastic one, even long after its initial release.

I mean, *lots* of them–even though they're all based on random combinations of attributes. The game has enough gear to make every loot fan very happy.CONS:- NOT MUCH VARIATION: For such an expensively produced game, Borderlands doesn't have much variety in enemies and environments. A bit clunkier, unrefined, and certainly a lot more lack luster than the newer games, but as the first game in the series it establishes itself well enough with a fun gameplay loop, tons of variety, and a masterclass of DLCs which I would argue has still not been replicated fully to this day.

The game is a very high quality remaster of the original and adds many QOL changes that improve the game in many ways, the only real flaws IThe game is a very high quality remaster of the original and adds many QOL changes that improve the game in many ways, the only real flaws I see aside from some things that are obviously dated, is that the add for BL3 is kind of annoying and cannot be turned off. There are also some matchmaking issues online but that is only an issue if you want to play online. Also among all the QOL changes I'm sad they didn't add fast travel to the dlc because that is clearly their biggest flaw. I'm glad that this was actually made and is a classic from a bygone era and brings back some great memories for a great price.

You will be hard-pressed to find a better co-op game on the market today that isn’t a battle royale. The constant stream of loot and fun will keep vault hunters going for hours.

Although it is somewhat outdated with regard to some elements, Borderlands Game of the year edition is still proof that some things were better in the past. Local four player mode is something we miss enormously in today's games. But best of all is that the update is free for PC players.

A mixed bag. It’s fun to revisit one of the first “looter shooters” for consoles again, and the mix of run, gun, and loot still holds up well despite its age. But this is hardly a perfect port/remaster of that game, and because of that, it’s difficult to really suggest picking it up.

If you are playing on an original Xbox One, and haven’t played it before, then Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is without a doubt, a five star game. If you’re on an X, or have played it before, it’s not. There’s a great deal of fun here, even for returning players, but it’s hard to recommend this over the Backward Compatible version.

Gearbox's release of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition brings the missing piece of the franchise to current generation consoles. Mechanical and visual improvements solidify Borderlands has always been a fun, beautiful game that was quite forward-thinking despite some things not aging well.

Having already seen Borderlands 2 squeezed into the PlayStation Vita (with, admittedly, ropey results), it’s a surprise this version of the first game isn’t also coming out on Nintendo Switch, but that’s an issue for another day. For many though, having an excuse to replay Borderlands 1 on the same console as the Handsome Collection is good enough. Definitely worth a play if you’ve never done so before, but perhaps not all that essential anymore.

Thanks to its revamped visuals and a wealth of meaningful gameplay improvements, Borderlands Game of the Year Edition is without a doubt the best way way to experience a classic.

The game’s enhancements and quality of life improvements are wonderful, not only making it look much better and more refined, but giving it a management fluidity that the original version lacked. You’ll need to forgive some delayed rendering and the odd drop in framerate, but for the most part, the entire package holds up remarkably. Putting it simply, Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is the best way to play Borderlands on console.

Borderlands came out a decade ago, I remember thinking that was unrivaled and this captured the hordes of people especially in co-op play with the franchise immediately. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition releasing on the Xbox One had me pleased as I often wondered where the last remaster has been hiding all this time for us. There is also more content and new weapons in they GOTY edition. Technically the game also delivers in all areas it previously did including the fantastic humor in the game. My only request would have been additional enemies added in the new content as well. This GOTY edition of the original, is truly a must buy for newcomers and veterans of the original masterpiece. Two massive thumbs up...

Unlike more recent entries in this space, Borderlands doesn’t hinge on fragile in-game economies or being stingy with loot. Instead, it's a game that just wants to have fun – silly, brash, play-it-with-friends kind of fun. Welcome back old friend, you have been missed.

There are 4 amazing characters to choose from, the Berserker, the Siren, the Hunter and the Soldier. The story is enthralling and will keep you excited. The controls are very suitable for the game, which is one of the main things you are looking for in a video game. I have been playing this game over and over for years it is that good, SO much replay value, so you will never get bored of it! It does have a slight lack of balance, I was easily able to shotgun through everything, but not so much with a sniper rifle, but I guess that's because shotguns usually deal ridiculous damage most often.The story was good, the characters were fantasticly insane. Only one big problem, the story doesn't change playthrough 2. That made me angry.

You can also choose to keep going with your first play through to go play some DLC, or go through the original game all over again. With the same level you are, and all the perks you got on your first play through. This game really does deserve a 10/10. You will have loads of fun and hours on end of fun game play.
