Yes, BOMBFEST is very simplistic in design, mechanically and graphically, but it has a certain charm to it, and most importantly, it’s accessible to anyone to simply have fun in short bursts. Online multiplayer is lacking, but to be expected for a small indie title, so make sure to call some friends over for some hilarity. Bomberman could learn a few things from BOMBFEST, so get those bombs ready and your curse words prepped, as both will be flying towards your friends.

The recommendation for Bombfest depends on who is going to be playing it. As a single player proposition, it’s not the best. It’s too hard to win, it appears that luck plays far too big a role in the game and it’s most definitely too confusing. With a gang of friends, or even as a family game, then it all begins to make a lot more sense.

The game gives you a decent amount of options you can tweak and change which means no game ever plays out the same way. It’s quite easy to get the hang of which means gamers of all ages can enjoy this game and this in a way gives the game even more in terms of replayabilty. When played with four friends the gameplay shines a lot and if played this way you’ll definitely return back to the game time and time again. Unfortunately the game suffers with a few technichal issues every now and then which ultimately impact on your overall experience a little.Even though the game boasts a decent amount of unlockables unlocking these didn’t feel as rewarding as they should’ve been. While I enjoyed the visuals on the whole it still would’ve been nice to have seen more variety present in the different stages. In order to make a game a successful local multiplayer you have to be given a reason to return back to that said game time and time again. Thankfully Bombfest does just that and even though it’s far from being perfect the fun factor remains high and it gives you a lot of enjoyable moments when played in short bursts. Obviously the best way to enjoy this game is when played with family and friends because it just doesn’t cut it when played on your own. This isn’t a problem though because it’s really not meant to be played alone because after all it’s all about local multiplayer. One thing that stands out in this game is that it’s very easy to get the hang of so gamers of all ages can enjoy what this game has to offer. You also have the ability to chop and change certain options as well which means no game ever plays out the same way and if they had put that much variety in the different stages as well then it would’ve made the game even better. In terms of problems the game has a couple but my biggest problem was the technical issues that present themselves every now and then. Despite this though Bombfest on the whole gets more things right than it gets wrong and if you enjoy local multiplayer game’s that are quite wacky then you can do far worse, making Bombfest a decent addition to the genre.

This is one local multiplayer bomb-based game that anyone can pick up, play, and enjoy. There’s a nice, steady influx of unlocks to earn through little more than natural play, ensuring that even the youngest and lesser skilled of players will witness everything that the game has to offer. The drawback, however, is that outside of its technical issues, it all becomes fairly repetitive before too long, more so when playing solo.
