Summary

Blood is not always thicker than water.

Scotland, 1926. Following the suicide of his father, David Gordon visits his ancestral home for the first time in his life. A life that is soon threatened by the dark secrets that claimed the sanity of many Gordons before him.

Tormented by nightmares and waking dreams for all his life, David fears that it might be his destiny to follow in his father’s footsteps, down a path that leads to madness, and death.

Is there really a Curse that has been haunting his family, like his father believed?
It is up to David to uncover the horrible truths, buried under generations of silence and fathoms of stone. Black Mirror Castle demands an offering...

"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity."
Edgar Allen Poe

Like in the original graphic adventure trilogy, the Gothic Horror genre and its unique atmosphere of madness and psychological distress remains at the heart of Black Mirror.
The point-and-click gameplay of the original trilogy served as the basis for the re-imagined gameplay, which focuses on close-up investigation and interaction with nightmarish visions that plague the protagonist of the game David Gordon.

"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
Edgar Allan Poe

Storyline

"David Gordon never knew his estranged father particularly well. Still it comes as a shock when he is summoned to his family’s ancestral home in the Scottish highlands, after his father has taken his own life there. David does not know much about his father’s final weeks, but the circumstances of his death seem more than peculiar. Settling the heritage is merely an excuse for David to find out more about the castle his father grew up in, meeting the family he never knew and for shedding light on the mysteries surrounding his father’s death.

Tormented by nightmares and waking dreams for all his life, he fears that it might be his destiny to follow in his father’s footsteps, down a path that leads to madness and death.
Is there really a curse that has been haunting his family for generations as his father believed? Or are the mysteries hidden inside the cold walls of Black Mirror house of a far more wordly nature?

It is up to David to uncover the horrible truths, buried under generations of silence and fathoms of stone."

A normally boring, at times annoying and frustrating "puzzle" design. Avoid.

I'm going to be honest II really loved the first Black Mirror game, also quite liked the second one. Third one was just okay. But this... I'm going to be honest I only played for about two hours because I couldn't stand how clumsy it felt how the story felt. It feels like a terrible fan fiction. They removed everything that made the originals so good. Now it's just a generic gloomy game with ghosts and a castle. The old spirit is away. If you haven't played the trilogy go and play it. It's old but it's still amazing and the mood will fascinate you. Stay away from this unless you really like this kind of console influenced wannabe advanture games.

Armed only with me wits, I battled through all them QTEs, all till the bitter end, with me wild, trusty psychiatric sidekick lassie, faced things beyond the human ken, and met fair share of them spooks along the way. Rough road it was, like a unpatched kilt, worn and coarse, aye, that it was, but I learnt me limits, and seen what misfortune can a Scotsman meet for the love of his wee dram. Aye.

The puzzles are decent sometimes and David has a very nice coat, but that’s about all Black Mirror’s advantages I can think of.

Instead of embracing the foundation of that rich story and enhance it with the new technologies nowadays, they decided to "reboot" it with entirely different characters and vision. I was looking forward so much to seeing another game with great feeling that previous ones left in me, playing them over and over again trough the years just to sense that nice feeling of playing good story line game. Today, everything is about money and 3D or VR. Point and click is considered as old-fashioned obsolete technique, but I am still wondering how it gave me so much more enjoyment and still does...That's why there are rarely good games now, everything is about big fancy realistic graphics and motion methods, reality enchanters - like VR or other, but they fail in my opinion big time whilst simple 3rd point and click can feel so much more alive..even in 2018. Hope to see a game one day related to Black Mirror as we all fans knew it, remade, remastered without killing the reach story and atmosphere which the 3 games managed to build.
