Battlefield 1 transports you back in time to the harrowing events of WW1. With a focus on historically accurate content, everything from the missions to the weaponry and clothing are authentic. With previous Battlefield games taking criticism for somewhat slightly lacking solo-play, the Battlefield 1 developers have taken huge steps in ensuring this is no longer the case. With a more expansive open environment and a greater number of options available when it comes to completing missions and defeating enemy forces, they’ve certainly accomplished their objective. They’ve even thrown in a few new melee weapons to spice up the close quarter combat – ever wanted to know what it’s like to take out a man with a shovel?!
The campaign mode follows the story of six unknown war heroes from the allied forces at different times during The Great War. Help the Harlem Hellfighters hold back the advancing German soldiers in France, before finding yourself transported to Gallipoli as an Australian message runner of the ANZAC forces. The epic multiplayer battles of previous Battlefields have never come under question and the same is true for the latest instalment (and they’ve even thrown in a few new multiplayer modes to keep things fresh). The plethora of weapons to use, armoured vehicles to drive and planes to fly, along with the historical accuracy and emotion undertones of the missions, make this game one of the best first-person shooters out there.
