What is it with boys and dinosaurs? As kids we just can’t get enough of them (and if you’re like my best mate, you still can’t well into your thirties – I’m not here to judge)! Maybe it was The Land Before Time (don’t deny it we all cried) or Jurassic Park that caused it but whatever the reason, the somewhat mystical dinosaurs have always been fascinating to us. Many a young boy has dreamed of hunting a pack of Velociraptors whilst riding a Triceratops, right?! Well there’s some great news for the young kid inside of you. Thanks to the team at Studio Wildcard you can live out all your boyhood dino-fantasies in Ark: Survival Evolved.
The action adventure survival game is set on an island crawling with dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Played from either a first or third person perspective, you traverse across the wide open world either on foot or wait for it….. by riding one of your favourite prehistoric beasts. There are twenty-nine species of dinosaur in the game and over forty creatures overall, most of which can be tamed and subsequently ridden. And it’s not just riding them! After taming the beasts, you can utilise their unique strengths to basically do your bidding as you please.
You’ll have to work hard for it though, as you land on the beaches of the island in pretty much nothing but your underwear and your two fists to defend yourself. You must gather resources to build…well pretty much everything! Everything from guns to other weapons to your home base, you’ll have to gather supplies to craft it all from scratch, all the while keeping an eye out for uninvited guests (whether that be prehistoric predators or other looting human players). The best bet is keep your base camp hidden as well as possible, then you won’t keep having to ask the question….. do you think he saurus? – I’m not even sorry!
