As a cooperative horde shooter with friends it’s a great and fun time. If you are a fan and want to enjoy it with friends it’s a good buy. But if you are looking for the horror element of Aliens there is not much and most of it is rather repetitive and gets tedious.

I wish it had $60 worth of levels but at $40 again, there’s a lot here. The level design is a bit linear and I wish there were a few more surprises in where you go (sometimes your objectives will very slightly change to replays don’t get tiresome). The guns feel fantastic — especially the Pulse Rifle and SmartGun and the Shotguns are all impactful. There’s some loot elements to it that allow for customization of your class abilities and weapons to give you more freedom on how you play. The Doc character needs a full overhaul as a healer/support as his mechanic is a nightmare to play with random people not using microphones. Outside of that, this is a blast to play alone and better with friends. The bots are capable enough (but don’t do objectives) and will keep up in the kill count and accuracy/shot percentage. If you’re an Alien fan, definitely give this a look. It integrates elements from all the films and even Alien: Isolation. It’s a fun time, even if it’s not one that you’ll spend forever with. Looking forward to coming back as they add more classes and content.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite reminds us of the mostly forgotten genre of movie tie-ins (even though this is simply a franchise tie-in occasion). It’s one of those games that mostly tries to capitalize on the power of its title, but at the same time it’s highly derivative in almost all of its aspects.

Bots aren’t useless but take a lot of avoidable damage and often stand still. The story is forgettable and the dialog is abysmal. Finding intel unlocks lore but I stopped caring almost immediately.This game shines with its upgradable classes and pure fun gameplay. You will be repeating missions and mindlessly shooting down hordes of xenomorphs but you're always progressing. The perks and weapons you unlock are worthwhile and accommodate many playstyles. Dozens of relentless enemies fill the screen and come from everywhere. Most encounters are intense, leaving you with a "Who's next?!?!" attitude when its over. The end of the last mission is outstanding, so much so, my friend saved a clip and kept rewatching it lol.I was looking for a co-op game with the potential to be played indefinitely and despite being a budget game, it has filled that void nicely. - 7.5PS: I love that there are 2 modern games that capture the spirit of the first 2 movies in this franchise and are properly named.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is an online co-operative action title that exudes love for the franchise on which it is based, that doesn't aspire to revolutionise anything and that has, in its simplicity, its main virtues and defects. As accessible and satisfying as it is repetitive. A perfect videogame to enjoy in company. Immediate fun that will also delight fans of the second film installment of the franchise. A pity it doesn't take more risks and is so predictable in almost everything it does.

Disappointed I thought I'd just play for an hour and return it. Glad I didn't listen to them.Ended up playing 4 hours straight and had to get off to get some sleep. The whole next day at work it was all I thought about and couldn't wait to get back in. Talked some friends into getting it to play with and they are having a blast as well. Sure there's things that could be improved/balanced/added (I'm sure they will in time), but what it does right far outweighs the bad. And ffs it's 2/3 the price of the average game, I can forgive for cutting a few minor corners.

Even so, and for now, there’s a satisfactory gameplay that stands on the central mechanics of the game, which are enough to keep us interested. Until when we still don’t know.

Controls are smooth, activating skills is like a Destiny esque style of LB and RB. No super skills though but gives you very helpful passive perk. The lack of super skills I respect, these guys are not super heroes but your average grunts.Enemies range from different Xenos to small ones that die easily, Drones that will come and grab you and retreat when injured. For the ones who like to speed run through will come across the Marauder xeno who will 'love' you to death if you stray too far from your team. I love when this happens to them because this is a team game and you need to stick with the team. You get the occasion Wey Yu android soldiers, face huggers and obviously the big bad mama xeno.I've tried 4 classes and I'm sticking to the Doc or medic class only because they're a rare find in matchmaking (just doing my part). But that doesn't mean I'm a weakling, I've unlocked the Flechette sniper rifle and I'm one shotting bugs from afar while keeping the hard hitters alive. My second go to is the Demolisher or Heavy class. The Smart gun aka aimbot gun is very handy clearing out bugs in corridors. Technician is good for setting up defences like Sentries and slowing down advances with coil grenades. The gunner is the standard grunt which gives boosts to attacks. There is a 5th class to unlock once you complete the campaign.Graphics/SoundFor a small developer, they went all out in this department. Game looks beautiful running 60fps throughout. From the glossy reflective head carapace of a Xeno to the iconic sound of your Pulse rifle belting out 60 rounds full clip they kept true to the movies. Voice acting is a bit sub par and the radio noise can be overwhelming sometimes.MultiplayerMultiplayer has been good to me connection wise. Matchmaking has matched me with players with equal level so can't complain. It's the finding is the hardest part, it feels like they don't have enough players and you revert to your AI android soldiers who are CRAAAPPP. You will not be able to finish the harder missions without real players. Hopefully, they can buff your AI friends in the next update.Overall, I'm enjoying my experience with the game. It's a bit of a grind to level up but they unlock attachments and new guns so that'll keep me busy for the next month or 2.Final score 7.5

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is an absolute win if you’re a franchise fan and you stick to the multiplayer; if you’re a solo player and the universe does nothing for you, there’s not much here worth exploring.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is very good indeed. There are issues, but the presentation is bang on, the action is unrelenting, and with missions taking 25 minutes and upwards to complete, the campaign is a good one. Throw in five classes to go at and this should well keep you busy. That’s not to mention the horde mode that unlocks when you complete the campaign.

Apart from a camera that despises the view from a corner, some buggy and inconsistent team matchmaking mechanics, and the curious decision to add punishing roguelike elements, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a polished and potentially fun and action-filled romp through a corner of the Alien universe and lore. Played without human squadmates and reliant on AI stand-ins at anything but the easiest difficulty, the game’s more repetitious aspects begin to grate, as failure will be inevitable. Played with a trio of living beings possessing some situational awareness, reflexes and the ability to communicate, using an arsenal of cool guns and toys against swarms of iconic Xenomorphs is a mindless, if not mind-blowing, good time.

Despite what its reduced price might suggest, there's a lot here to keep you entertained for numerous hours, especially once you've managed your first run through all four acts and start tackling them again with higher difficulty settings in the pursuit of consistently better gear. There's so much satisfaction in customizing and managing a handful of classes with enough depth to transform them into the Colonial Marine you need at a given time, along with a plethora of great weapons to make the moment-to-moment action engaging from the first time you pull the trigger. What it lacks in dread it makes up for in pure white-knuckle action, making Aliens: Fireteam Elite a great place to engage with this iconic sci-fi franchise again.

However, it could have been much more and bring some variety to not always be the same. Still, if you are fans of the movie saga you can't let it escape.

The story won't pull you in, but the core gameplay is satisfying, fun, and addictive and that is what will ultimately keep you coming back.
