If you grew up in the 80's and you miss the days when sexploitation barbarian movies like Barbarian Queen, Deathstalker I & II, or even higherIf you grew up in the 80's and you miss the days when sexploitation barbarian movies like Barbarian Queen, Deathstalker I & II, or even higher budget films like Conan the Barbarian and Beastmaster were all the rage in your local mom and pop video store, this game is a love letter to those films, and a big middle finger to our current Politically Correct culture. It's gory, tacky, crude, and filled to the brim with boobs, ass, and unapologetic personality. But what's most important is that, underneath the style and attitude, is a pretty decent and addictive game at its core. This is a slightly non-linear, side-scrolling hack and slash adventure. Think "Golden Axe" but with plenty of opportunities to go back through and unlock previously blocked passages, discover secret areas, or take alternate paths that result in alternate chapter endings. There's also a very bare bones RPG element in the way of EXP gaining and leveling up. Replaying areas to raise EXP is the secret to moving forward, staying alive, and unlocking new killing moves, so its important to leverage the non-linear aspect. Now for the negatives: this game needed about 3 more months of bug fixing and polish before it was released. There are times I've inexplicably had my controller stop functioning under odd circumstances. If you open the skill tree when the game prompts you to (by pressing select just after leveling up) you get a whole right side of the page that is cut off and you are unable to scroll the screen to see the rest. (you can alternately look at the same screen in a separate menu system and it works fine). There is an annoying sound glitch at the end of every quip that you hear from the narrator. There has been a moment or two when my character was blocked from leaving either end of a cave and it was definitely not a scripted situation. Backing out and replaying was the only option. The actually combat style is "clunky" to say the least. That said, you DO get used to it after a while, and leveling up definitely helps. The game is very generous about how it allows your EXP to accumulate even after dying, which means that even if you have a frustrating time at first, you ARE making gains that will help in the long run. Also, every boss battle I've had so far I've been able to beat after figuring out that each one requires a slightly different approach.Going back to the subject of mature content: sensitive snowflakes and Social Justice Warriors need not apply here. This game is NOT for those people. This is a sophomoric romp for those that want flopping breasts, tiny garments, dismemberment, disembowelment, castrations, dick jokes, and a cathartic escape from public decency, with a pretty good game working under the hood (albeit some sloppiness in the finished product.
