Summary

Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire is the second expansion for the award-winning game, Guild Wars 2. As the balance of magic comes undone, lead your allies in the hunt for the rogue god Balthazar, whose scorched-earth campaign threatens the very existence of Tyria.

Introducing mounts, mounts are far more than a speed boost—they're a whole new way to explore the world of Tyria. Unlock and train your new companions using the max-level Mastery character progression system, and explore freely by leaping across canyons, bounding up high cliffs, and skimming over quicksand.

Continue to evolve and customize your level-80 character with a new elite specialization for each profession. With a new variety of playstyles, weapon choices, and traits to choose from, there are more options than ever to play your way.

Discover and earn treasures as you journey through the Crystal Desert. Outfit your character with new armor sets, skins, and weapons inspired by Elonian culture and the heritage of the desert.

Storyline

Humanity has worshipped the six gods for centuries, even as their prayers went unanswered. Now the god of fire and war, Balthazar, has made an unexpected return, only to reveal himself as a ruthless manipulator with little regard for mortal life.

Tyria's heroes thwarted the first stage of his catastrophic plan to destroy the Elder Dragons—but now he's raised a zealous army to cut a path of terror and destruction across the south. You must halt their march before Balthazar sets the foundations of the world ablaze.

The best behavior on horseback, wherever it was and not the main thing are the mounts are different from each other, not just skins, as in other games.

There's also quite a bit of gambling through lootboxes, an issue ArenaNet has been ignoring by just disabling them in some of the affected countries (a list that has not been updated despite the changing legal landscape)To top it off the setting of the expansion appears to be mostly fan-service and brutally drops the storyline from Heart of Thorns (the previous expansion) without ever properly resolving it. Character traits of popular characters were turned into caricatures because they proved popular. The core gameplay is fun, but despite requiring a purchase the game feel more and more like a F2P game with the monetisation.

Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire is a great expansion for an MMORPG that’s now five-years-old. For anyone like myself who missed out on the game during its original release, I’d recommend trying it out now. You won’t get as much out of the story as long-time fans or people who have done their homework but you’ll still be able to enjoy the game’s great visuals and huge amount of content, which now makes it even greater than before.

Path of Fire is a much better expansion than Heart of Thorns, and the best part about it is it will only set you back $30. The Guild Wars 2 base game is already free to play, and if you want both expansions, you can get them combined for $50. You are essentially getting years worth of content for the price of one game. If you have already played Guild Wars 2 before but have left for one reason or another and are on the fence about returning, I could not recommend a better time to come back. The Guild Wars 2 of 2017 is a very different game then you probably remember, and that's a good thing. Change in MMOs keeps them fresh and fun for years to come, and Guild Wars 2 embraces this better than any other MMO on the market. Praise Joko!

Guild Wars 2 goes back to its roots. The new zones offer an upbeat and exciting adventure filled with better events and challenges than Heart of Thornes.
